Bye Bye Mr. Ed!
One big change in the shop, sadly, is the departure of Ed Ferrari, who has been our rock on weekday mornings for many years. Ed and his wife have relocated. They’ve sold their house in Barre and bought a new home near Blacksburg, VA, where Ed hopes to work at another golf course. (It looks like you all must have treated him well!) Ed will be greatly missed, especially by the early morning golfers!

Sign Up in the Pro Shop
Grab your partner and sign up for the Maurice Kelley Tournament May 18 and 19, and men’s and women’s leagues starting in late May. Men’s league will be held on Tuesday evening. Ladies will play on Wednesdays.

You own it!
When we welcomed Joe Dingledine as the new pro last spring the club also changed the way sales of golf equipment, clothing and accessories are handled at CCB. Beginning last season, you the members own the golf shop, meaning that the profits from shop sales contribute to the financial stability of the club. So whether you need new irons, golf balls or a new glove, think of your pro shop. Special orders are always
available on request.

New Member Policy
CCB offers an attractive introductory rate for any golfer who was not a member in either of the last two years. As well, current members who recruit a new member receive a $100 credit in the pro shop. If you know of a friend who’s thinking of joining, please reach out to him or her. If they join, you get a bonus.

100th Anniversary
A number of things are planned to celebrate the 100th Anniversary, including a special logo on merchandise, a special raffle and a big party on June 29. Watch for ways to celebrate and get involved.

Volunteers Needed Again
Again this year the club has a couple of major competitions that will require volunteers. The Vermont State Women’s Golf Association Senior Championship is planned for July 8-10, and Vermont Golf Association’s Men’s Mid Am takes place August 8-11. Please consider volunteering as a spotter or scorer. For more information or to sign up, contact Joe-the-Pro or Joe-not-the-Pro !

Finally…

We hope you have a great year and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

CCB Bids a Fond Farewell to Jim (Doc) Garand

We lost a great one when Doc Garand passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023. A longtime member of CCB as well as Northfield Country Club, Doc was universally loved and treasured as a great friend, golfing buddy, mentor, and storyteller. On the course he was a master of the short game. After the round, you could always find him at the 19th hole, where he commanded the deck and led the banter to the delight of anyone within earshot.

We will forever remember his spirit, his humor, and his companionship.

Doc’s obituary may be found at https://memorials.vtfuneralhomes.com/james-garand/5236361/index.php#details

There will be a Celebration of Life at CCB this Thursday, July 27th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. where people will be encouraged to share stories and memories of Doc. This follows a service to be held at Saint Monica’s Catholic Church in Barre, VT at 12:30 p.m.

The Member Guest Tournament has been rescheduled to July 29th and July 30th.

Please contact the Pro Shop as soon as possible to let them know if you team will still be playing or not by email to oneputt@myfairpoint.net or by calling 476-7658.  A free practice round is included for each guest to be used prior to the weekend, please schedule tee times with the Pro Shop. There will no longer be a skins game on Friday.

ORDER OF PLAY: Shotgun start at 1:00 pm Saturday, July 29.

Tee times Sunday starting at 7:30 am

More information

We’re moving into June here at the Country Club of Barre and settling into the summer routine.

Bill Evans and the course management team have upgraded bunkers, cleared downed trees and sodded new senior and ladies’ tees on several holes. The grounds crew is working hard to put the club’s best foot forward for the Vermont Amateur Championship July 4-6. We’ll need volunteers to spot for golfers and keep things organized, so please consider helping the club over the 4th of July week.

In the pro shop, Head Golf Professional Joe Dingledine has unpacked and settled in. Joe has scheduled golf club fittings with Ping from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m on June 8 and with Mizuno from noon to 4 p.m. on June 14.

Men’s League begins May 30 with a 5:15 p.m. shotgun start. Golfers can sign up as an A-B-C-D team or individually in the pro shop. The league is limited to 40 players, so be sure to sign up as soon as possible.

On the women’s side the Ladies League kicks off on June 7. League activities are being managed by Patty Baroudi and Dee Lamberton.  Sign up with Patty and Dee and pay the $20 entry fee.

Pete Richards has the bag room and cart operation organized and running, and we’re fortunate to have some great workers (and outstanding athletes) from local schools working in the bag room.  Please try to help us retain our valued staff by tipping for club cleaning and other assistance when appropriate!

By the time you read this the first big member event of the season will be in the rear-view mirror. The popular Maurice Kelley was held May 20 and 21 with a full field of seven teams. The first nine-and-dine of the year was played on May 19. The first two outside tournaments, the Central Vermont Chamber Challenge was played on May 12 under beautiful weather, and the Vermont Senior Golf Association played in frigid temperatures on May 17.

The pro shop is well stocked and ready to supply you with gloves, tees, golf balls, clothing, hats, golf bags and more. Check out our Ping, Taylor Made, Callaway and Mizuno demos, and schedule a lesson with Joe the Pro.

See you at the club very soon!

CCB Pro Joe Dingledine

CCB Pro Joe Dingledine

The 2023 golf season is underway at Country Club of Barre, and the board of directors is very pleased to welcome back Joe Dingledine as its new PGA Professional, 29 years after he first served as Barre’s Assistant Golf Professional beginning in 1994. Since 2016 Joe has been the PGA Teaching Professional at Montague Golf Club in Randolph. Before that, he was the Head Golf Professional at Northfield Country Club for nine years. Joe is a Certified US Kids Golf Instructor and his proficiency in golf instruction, tournament operations, and Pro Shop management will be strong assets as he takes on his new role at CCB.

“I am excited to return to the Country Club of Barre, where I have many friends and great memories from my work here 22 years ago,” Dingledine said. “Bill Evans and his crew have really improved the course over the years, and we’re excited to host the Vermont State Amateur Championship in early July.”

Opening day at the Country Club of Barre was Thursday, April 20. Course Superintendent Bill Evans and his crew have created several new tee boxes, improved drainage and rebuilt bunkers over the last few years. Recently named one of the top five courses in Vermont by Golf Magazine, in 2023 CCB will host the Vermont Amateur Championship July 4-6.

CCB is open to the public, and players can book tee times by calling the Pro Shop at 802-476-7658 or booking online through our website. Daily rates, course details, and membership information, including promotional rates for new members, are available on the website. After your round plan to stop by at Fairways & Greens to sample the new menu, enjoy liquid refreshments, and renew friendships.
